Michelle Hume

The Midwest Chapter of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law

Michelle Hume, MD, PhD, is board certified in both general and forensic psychiatry. She is currently a staff psychiatrist at the Mendota Mental Health Institute in Madison, Wisconsin. She also has a private forensic practice, in which she does independent criminal and civil evaluations. She has been appointed to the Ethics Committee of the Group for the Advancement of Psychiatry, and has ongoing interests in ethical issues pertaining to research and psychiatric practice.  She has also been an active member of the Executive Committee of the Wisconsin Psychiatric Association since 2018. She was a former Resnick Scholar from the MWAAPL, and was appointed a Counsilor for 2025. Finally,  Dr. Hume is also a former APA Leadership Fellow and was selected as a Laughlin Fellow by the American College of Psychiatry.

MWAAPL shares a mission with our parent organization AAPL to promote scientific and educational activities in forensic psychiatry through resident awards, mentorship, scholarly collaboration and an annual high-quality meeting.
