Dr. Lawrence L. Jeckel, the current President of the Midwest Chapter of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law, is a board certified psychiatrist and psychoanalyst practicing in Champaign, Illinois. He is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Illinois College of Law and an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Illinois College of Medicine. He is a senior consultant for the Champaign County Courts, a consultant to the Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission and performs civil and criminal forensic psychiatry examinations throughout Illinois. He taught Law and Psychiatry at the College of Law for nine years, 2001 – 2010, and received the Innovation in Education Award from the University of Illinois College of Medicine for establishing the course.
Dr. Jeckel received his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Illinois and completed his psychiatric residency at the University of North Carolina Hospitals in Chapel Hill. In addition to forensic psychiatry, he has a full-time general psychiatry and psychotherapy practice, specializing in the intensive psychotherapy of professionals. He is a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and a member of the American Psychoanalytic Association.
